This one's dedicated to Squib's new puppy.
I looked up the breed, and it turns out it's a type of Czech sheepdog. Now, I happen to know some Czechs, and I know just enough about the language to make me wonder how that name is supposed to be pronounced. The "ý" at the end is basically a long "ee" sound; however, Czech doesn't use "ch" to make the English "ch" sound. If you want to make that sound, you use "č"—so if you wanted to write the word "chin" in Czech, you'd write it "čin". But a regular "c", without the accent, makes a "ts" sound. So, if you wanted to write the English work "cats" in Czech, it'd be "kac".
Care to weigh in on this Squib.
