Day 242: Get Krack!n
So, Kate & Kate from The Katering Show are debuting their new show in about ten minutes. This time they're supposed to be taking the piss out of brekkie news shows.

Day 240: Clean Out
I'm a bit behind, because I've had to have a bit of a reorganisation, in order to make way for some new equipment. Hopefully, I should be able to watch the last two eps of GoT tomorrow night.

Day 235: I dunno whether to put quotes around "value" or "meal"
I had to shout a co-worker lunch at Macca's today. The quality hasn't changed, but I always remember Macca's as being dirt cheap.

Day 234: Fat Pants
Today has been an extraordinarily shit day. Not just an ordinarily shit day, no sir; today, everything that could've gone wrong, did go wrong. It was a day where one thing failed after another. Things that were put in place just in case something failed—also failed. Today was the kind of day that I'm going to be cleaning up after for days to come. Fuck today.
Anyway, while I was at the supermarket this evening, I couldn't help but notice the bloke in front of me at the checkout. He was one of those soopa-doopa fat fellas, but instead of buying a pair of soopa-doopa big pants, he'd just taken his old pants and put splits in the sides.

Day 233: Aunty Alex Tradie Techie Tips
I'd just like to make a mention of MemTest86+, which is a free tool for testing the health of your RAM. Bad RAM can be disastrous, because it can lead to your computer silently writing corrupt data all over your hard-drive, including all over your important files. Personally, I'd recommend checking your RAM every few months. If you're interested, there's instructions on the website, and if that's not enough, I can also give some pointers if anyone is having trouble.

Day 232: Aunty Alex' Tradie Tips
As someone who handles a lot of tools, trust me when I say this: No matter how tempting it is to have a few extra dollars in you pocket, think twice before working with under-sized, under-powered, Chinese equipment. You might think your day's going to involve about twenty minutes of screwing, but be prepared to spend several hours finishing the job by hand.

Day 225: My 2¢ on the plebiscite
Thinking about it, I reckon a non-compulsory postal plebiscite is the best thing Tony Abbott could hope for. Despite the polling, I don't think support for same-sex marriage is as strong as some people might think. That is to say, I think most people's opinion is something along the lines of, "Yeah, sure, why shouldn't the poofs get married? Honestly, I couldn't give a shit what they do." However, I don't reckon there's a huge number of people who care about the issue enough to actually get up and do something about it. So, what I suspect, is that a voluntary plebiscite is going to yield a very low turnout, basically limited to people who have very strong opinions on the subject one way or the other. Combine this with the fact that I've heard some homosexuals say they plan to boycott the vote, and I'd say this is the best chance a "NO" result has of getting up.
If the result does come out "NO", that's probably going to activate a segment of the population who are mostly indifferent on the topic, but will demand that the government follow "the democratic will of the people". This will put the Turnbull faction of the Liberal party in a damned-if-you-do and damned-if-you-don't situation. And no matter what happens, a lot of people are going to be pissed off over the money that's being spent on this thing.
The question is, if Turnbull falls—over this or any other issue—would the party give Rabbit another go, or look for a third option? Julie Bishop? Barnaby Rubble?
Lastly, I'd just like to address one particular argument I've heard going around, for why we shouldn't be having a vote. That is, opening this topic up for discussion will give a platform to hateful people whose opinions will harm children and the mentally fragile. While it's a legitimate fear, I find that to be a terrible reason to try and stifle public debate.

Day 223: I'll vote yes, but I won't like it.
Personally, I'd like to see the government get out of regulating marriage altogether, and just lay out some simple rules that cover all forms of co-habitation, including defacto and polygamous relationships.

Day 222: Ever stood under the shower until the hot water ran out?
It's not good for the environment, but the shower is my happy place.

Day 218: A principled position
I was listening to an interview with Eric Abetz the other day. Here's a summary of two sequential answers he gave. See if you can spot the inconsistency:
Q: What do you think about raising taxes on the wealthy?
What we want in this country is equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome. Wealthy people work hard for their money, and while the Liberal party recognises that we need some taxation to pay for essential services, we opposes wealth redistribution on principle.
Q: What do you think about WA wanting to keep a bigger share of GST revenue?
It's important that we keep things fair, and the bottom line is, the more tax revenue WA keeps for itself, the less there is for all the other states.

Day 215: What's the harm?
So, I was catching up on the tech-news today. Apparently there's these simple little robots you can buy that zoom around your house and autonomously vacuum your floors. In order to become more efficient over time, as they move around, they create an internal "map" of your house. Also, they are "cloud connected", so all this info is stored on servers owned by the manufacturers. Well, apparently, it has just occurred to one of these manufacturer that they can make a buck by selling this data on to … well, anyone who wants it.
The story was covered on a number of shows I listen to, and all of the discussion basically boiled down to: "Who gives a shit. All these morons are worried about their privacy being invaded, but what's the actual harm that's being done?"
Well, here's my response to that: Suppose I hack into the computer network at your house and video tape you and your family without your consent. Suppose I manage to get footage of you and your partner having sex. Suppose I stick that footage up on PornHub and make money from it. Sure, you're probably going to feel like your privacy's been invaded, but what's the harm?
People have curtains on their windows for a reason. Cunts.
It never ceases to amaze me how paranoid Yanks are about the government, and yet they seem perfectly happy to usher in an Orwellian nightmare, so long as Big-Brother is a private corporation, answerable to no-one.
