Day 263: Engaging Autopilot
Some family stuff has come up, and it looks like I won't be able to check in here for the next week or so. Therefore, I'm cheating on my one-sketch-per-day relolution, and I'll just set the blog to auto-post a bunch of quick doodles I've just whipped up. See you when I get back.

Day 258: So, I hear there's a new iPhone
I haven't really looked into it, since I'm not interested in buying Apple shit; but I thought I'd put this up for others to voice their opinions.

Day 254: Toxic
I've been listening to a podcast called "Science Vs". It's hosted by Wendy Zukerman, whom some of you might remember from ABC's Catalyst. In each episode, she investigates the science—or lack thereof—behind everyday stuff. In the latest episode, she takes a look at "body cleansing/detoxifying", which I think I've debated the effectiveness of with somebody on here before, so I thought this might make for interesting listening (Of course, if it was Melba, she's probably not going to see this anyway).
In any case, you can download it here or stream it here or …
The episodes are usually more concerned with subject breadth than they are with depth, which I've been willing to forgive, since I thought they were relatively short. However, looking at the actual timestamps on these things, I can see that they're not really. It must just seem that way because I listen to them at 3x normal speed.

Day 248: Gumby Awards
I heard on the news tonight that Melbourne is sick of stumping up a million quid every year to host The Logie Awards. I don't blame them. The idea of taxpayers chipping in, so that a bunch of millionaires can get together and pat each other on the back, is maddening. Unfortunately, there's now talk about the organisers sniffing around Queensland, looking for a replacement handout. It's bad enough that we're going to be pissing away a fortune on the fuckin' Commonwealth Games—and possibly the Olympics as well—the last thing we need to be shelling out for is this wankfest. When other industries want to hold conventions and hand out awards, they fund the bloody things themselves. I see no reason why this mob of parasites can't do the same.

Day 245: ZFS
I'm too tired to do anything tonight, so I just thought I'd write a little bit about Open-ZFS. ZFS is the best file-system going at the moment. It checksums your data, which allows it to automatically detect damage, failure, or other forms of corruption; and it's able to mirror your data across several HDDs at once, effectively maintaining consistent automatic backups. Unfortunately, it's not available on Windows, and I dunno what's going on with the Mac version; so you need to be using Linux, FreeBSD, or Illumos, in order to reap its benefits.
