Day 32: My Dad Wrote A Porno

No, not literally, thank god.

On the way back from my little trip, I stopped by a few rellies' places and one of them recommended this podcast.

The premise is that a 60 year old, Irish retiree has seen the success of 50 Shades Of Grey and decided to have a go at self-publishing erotic fiction. In each episode, his son—along with two mates—read and critique a chapter (working through each book in sequential order).

It's quite funny, especially when they get stuck into the grammar. However, podcasts are my main form of entertainment these days, and I've listened to too many to buy into the idea that this is just three mates sitting around recording themselves having a laugh. Everything from the audio quality to the way they bounce of each other is too slickly done. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's scripted, but it's definitely recorded on proper equipment, well mixed and edited, and I have to believe that all three participants have some sort of radio experience.

Whether or not the main conceit of the bloke's dad writing a porno is actually true or not, I haven't got a clue … and it doesn't really matter to me. I'm willing to suspend disbelief, and it's funny regardless, especially if you've ever read any porn in the past. Maybe it's just the stuff I've read, but even the professionally published stuff seems to be riddled with terrible grammar, laughable imagery, idiotic scenarios, and obvious spelling errors.

Check out the first episode anyway, and decide for yourself.

Episode #1:

The real thing hardly bears thinking about, does it?
