Day 157: Sinister Omniscience

It struck me the other day, that most regular people probably don't listen to the same volume of tech-related news that I do. So, I was wondering, is there any interest in me covering some of the more interesting stories here?

Anyway, I was listening to videos about religion on Youtube on the weekend and I came across one that was done by a couple of atheists who had come from very strict religious families—one Jewish, one Muslim—and they were talking about some of the crazy shit in their former religions.

Not great, but at least I put a some effort into this one.

Apparently the first thing a Jewish man is supposed to do when he wakes up in the morning is get down on his knees—in front of his wife—and loudly thank God for making him a man rather than a woman. There's also apparently some ceremony they do where a husband puts his wife on a leash and has her dance for him.

And apparently in Islam, it is insulting to God if you're not sufficiently clean when you pray. And, if anything passes through your anus or reproductive organs between when you clean yourself and when you pray, that makes you unclean again. So, no farting, or—I guess—praying while on your period? Also, apparently there are Islamic scholars who argue over whether or not hell is full of faithful Muslims who didn't take enough care while urinating and prayed with little splashes of piss on their clothes.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find this particular video again. So instead, here are some Logicked videos about the sinister implications of an omniscient God. The second one's the interesting one, but the first one sets up a lot of stuff that gets talked about in the second. They're long, and nothing much happens in them visually, so I suggest putting them on and listening to them while you do something else.

Oh, there's also some weird jokes in the first one, which are obviously there for longtime viewers, but thankfully they're not too intrusive.
