WBBL started this weekend. Last cricket season, it struck me how idiotic car ads were getting. This year, it's the mobile phones. Whether it's Samsung, Apple, or Google, all of these ads seem like they're designed to appeal to the most vain, shallow, vacuous, annoying, simpleton you could possibly imagine. I would actually feel insulted if I thought I was the target audience for these things.
Oh, and I dunno what they're going for in the UK, but can I point out that a new top-of-the-range iPhone will now set you back over two grand Australian.
Who the fuck is buying these things?

Not me. Though I did recently get an S9, I waited until I saw a special on them where it was less than $1K for the phone. Could have waited longer, but I'm glad I didn't because it's taken me ages to set it up and get used to it.
But I am hoping this phone will last me at least 3 years. I was dead keen to get a phone with a better camera than the one I had. Which was, ironically, the reason I got the last phone before that.
Has the S9 got all the smart assistant bullshit on it?
I recently upgraded the software on my tablet, and it won't stop asking me if I want help and telling me about all the wonderful things it can do for me. It's like Clippy 2.0, only without the punch-able face of a smug cartoon paperclip. And the worst part is, there's no fuckin' options to turn it off!
Having tried LineageOS in the past, I can see why people who are clever enough to flash the firmware on their phones swear by it.
Haha, yes it has Bixby on it, but I've not found it as annoying as some have.
I am too scared to flash my phone - even an old one, in case I brick it and need it as a backup some time in the future.
I've flashed a few phones and tablets. Never once had a problem, but I still get nervous every time I do it. Problem is, I don't have any experience fixing one that's stuffed up, because none of them ever have. Bit of a catch-22, I guess.
