Video Pics: Big Boss & Baggy Body

So, last night, while I was procrastinating sketching an okapi, I watched some documentaries. None of them were must-see, but I thought two of them were at least, sort of, eh ... worth a look.

BIG BOSS:

No, not the Bruce Lee film. It's actually about a hundred-year-old Aboriginal woman in the top end, her position in the community, and the task of recording all the knowledge in her head before it's lost forever.

I thought it tied in nicely with the topic of ageism, which came up recently. Also, it's only 25mins long.

Up until 21 July

They show an old photo of her at 16, standing on a beach in a loincloth. It gave me a little chill to think about the journey from one point in time to the other.

MY BAGGY BODY:

This one follows three poms who have lost huge amounts of weight and now have masses of excess skin to deal with. I probably reacted to this one more than most people would, because I've had a ~slightly~ similar experience. Thankfully, my wrinkles are nowhere near what these people have been left with. And that's probably the overwhelming sense I had when I watched this -- "Thank god that isn't me".

Up until 23 July

I can't remember exactly, but I think the excess skin on its own weighed about 2 stone when removed.

I've missed these, would have liked to see the first one and probably would have looked at the second but might not have stuck it. That loose skin idea. Now I've started yoga I'm hoping to tone. I don't have bagginess really other than the tummy and a bit of a fat back... I suppose I've never been too big and lost heaps of weight, or I have elastic skin or something.

I think skin is generally pretty elastic; but even elastic has its limits.

The heaviest you've ever been is probably when you were pregnant, right? If that's the case, I don't think you'll have too many problems.

If I put all the fat I've lost in a sack, that sack would be heavier than I am now. The only benefit to it is I can use it as a visual aide for the youngsters when telling them why they shouldn't be drinking so much damn coke.

Yeah around about.

So that's a lot of fat.

You must feel terrific and strong. It's great. Even after two weeks of yoga I'm feeling stronger and sleeping better (not that I was sleeping badly, just really sleeping deeply and feel rested when I wake up, and I wake up slowly and a bit earlier and doze, it's lovely).

That's the thing. Sometimes when I talk about my fitness, I wonder if it comes off too much like skiting. But what I'm really trying to do is evangelise. The difference in how you feel is indescribable. And the sleep. Now I get more refreshed off five hours than I used to off ten.

Imagine even having two extra hours to yourself each day!

Are you doing yoga every day? Are you over the soreness hump yet?
