'appy Straya Day!

This woulda been about what I'da been packin', back when I was a yoof.

I still like the idea of having a green & gold flag rather than that read, white, and blue bullshit with the big wanky union jack on it.

Anyway, hope you had a good one.

I've never celebrated oz day, except insofar as it's my bday. I've always been anti-oz day so cringed a lot when people used to post Happy Oz Day along with bday greetings on my FB wall (luckily they didn't do that this year) because I couldn't very well not like their bday post but at the same time I didn't want to endorse the oz day thing. Even if it was changed to a more appropriate date, I still would not be into it as I'm not that into patriotism except insofar as I have very strong feelings about Arnott's Shapes retaining the original bbq and cheese flavours

Happy birthday, Squib.

How do you feel about chicken crimpy?

Happy birthday Squib. You are the second person I know whose birthday is on Jan 26 who has mixed feelings about it because of Invasion Day.

Our wedding anniversary is on Hitler's birthday. TYVM to hubby's friend who ruined the date with that little tidbit.

When (and it will happen) the date is moved, you will get your day back. :) But we'll always be stuck with Hitler. :(

I don't eat meat so I don't care what happens to the crimpy - they can stick feathers on them!

Hitler's bday is most unfortunate. Do you still celebrate your wedding anniversary? Mr Squib forgot ours this year, even after I sent him a link to our wedding waltz song

Yes, we do celebrate. Usually dinner and some wine at a nice restaurant.

This year's a landmark year and given our past troubles, we are celebrating by going away for a few days. :)

Squib: I would be stunned to learn that those bikkies had anything close to resembling real chook in them.

So, does anyone have any thoughts on what a good alternate date would be? Even if you're one of those people who don't care about the invasion day angle, I always thought Jan 26 felt like it had more to do with the history of NSW than the history of Australia generally.

Federation seems more appropriate to me. The problem with that, is Jan 1st is already a public holiday.

That's impressive, Suze. I've given up on MrSquib making any kind of effort

I would be stunned as well. But I also don't like chicken flavour. Nothing more tragic than getting a bucket of chips and finding chicken salt on them

Well the various months various states have the Queen's bday holiday in are not remotely the same as the Queen's actual bday so they could make Federation-oz day any old day. Someone should wear a blindfold, spin round, and then pin a flag on a calendar

Nah, if the actual date doesn't matter, they should pick a part of the year that doesn't have any other public holidays in it. Just to break things up a bit.
