Yobbo & Goth

I was on the train the other day, when two young women got on. One was an Asian looking lass in a sort of heavy-metal-goth type get-up (emo?). The other had European features and looked like a bit of a yobbo: tiny, tiny shirt with no bra; tiny, tiny skirt with no knickers (which became obvious when she sat down); and well-worn sand-shoes with no socks.

Whether she'd left the house without underclothes or had somehow lost them along the way was not readily apparent. What she said to her companion did little to shed light the situation:

"Look at that (holding up phone). I'm gonna smash that bitch next time I see her. Maybe I'll film it an' put it up on FaceBook. Yeah, might fuckin' teach her a thing or two. Actually, ya know what we should do? We should go 'round to her mum's place and trash the joint. That'd fuckin' get the message across, wouldn't it? Fuckin' slut."

They both gazed unflinching into their phones. Neither spoke again.

I love that you've drawn the Asian chick with impossibly high boobs.

Who wants to see something like that on the train? Blargh

GOD. Amazing pic, but wow. She sat like that? Did she seem high?

Can't help but feel like you're just being polite, Melbs. I think this might be the worst picture I've posted so far. It's clearly rushed and there's so much stuff I would've gone back to fix if I wasn't imposing a rigid time limit on these things. Even as a simple cartoon, some of the basic composition in the figures doesn't work properly. Ah well, practise, practise, practise …

But yeah, I think she was under the influence of something, even if it was just a hangover.

Suze, I've talked about this before, but for some reason I don't understand, there's a trend amongst young Asian women in my neighbourhood to wear these insane push-up bras. I've been wondering about it for a while; whether or not it's restricted to my area, and why it seems to be a specifically ethnic thing.

Fingers crossed the white girl wasn't the start of a different trend …

I don't think you realise that for people who can't draw, what's amazing is possibly something you think is a little rough or whatever. Also included in my 'amazing' was the scene rendered, not just how it is rendered.

But hey, you are drawing so was it squib's advice to do them quickly and not think about it too much, that's what's got you going again? YAY

Re the Asian girl boob thing, haven't noticed it here so much but maybe cause they might not have much to work with they are really hoisting up the padded bras?

You're right, it was a pretty amazing scene. And your theory about the push-up bras is as good as anything I've come up with. In the end it's probably just another crazy manifestation of young women rebelling against their genetics in pursuit of some weird perceptual ideal. Or something. We've all been there, I guess.

I can't remember exactly what Squib said, but I know she gave me the idea for my first pic (the bubblegum girl with the headphones). I think a lot of it had to do with what I wrote about giving myself "permission to suck" (ie: drawing left-handed, having a strict time-limit, not being allowed to go back and correct mistakes, posting the picture no matter what). Yes, I'm very happy to be drawing again after nearly two years of paralysis; and all things considered, I think it's coming along quite nicely so far. YAY! indeed.

I had a BF who was an artist and he was burnt out at the time and doing something completely different with his life. I commented (after seeing some of his work) what a pity it was that someone with such obvious talent was not using it, and asked if he might consider drawing me something. It was so simple, but it started him off using his talent again. I now know (through internet stalking) that he's a full-time colourist and good for him. Unfortunately - and it's not like we had a bitter breakup or anything - I've got a bunch of his original concept drawing for a strip he was thinking about and he won't reply to my emails attempting to give them back.

Strange. Maybe he took the breakup a little harder than you did?
